About Kappa Kappa Psi
Kappa Kappa Psi was founded at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklhaoma State) in 1919, and the Delta chapter at the University of Oklahoma was chartered in 1921. The national fraternity has blosomed to over 170 chpater with 4,000+ members and 45,000+ alumni. Our local chapter currently has over 40 active members.
Kappa Kappa Psi is a group of hardworking, service orintated individuals who work "behind the scenes", along with our sister organization, Tau Beta Sigma, to keep the Pride of Oklahoma moving, much like many of you have done during your time with your high school bands. As Brothers and Sisters, we are sometimes considered the "back-bone" of the band. Kappa Kappa Psi also acts as a social organization for individuals who share a common bond of love for music and service.
The Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi here at the University of Oklahoma strives to do its utmost to promote and serve our university, its ensembles, and the members of those ensembles. Our responsibiliites include serveral service projects such as:
-Helping the newest members to our OU community to move into the dorms prior to Pride Pre-Camp
-Loading and unloading the busses
-Passing out food and water during games
-Holding social events for the band during the Pride Pre-Camp and througout the year
-Several members of our chapter are on truck-crew
-Participating in Big Event and other campus-wide service opportunities throughout the year
Who Can Join:
A student may be offered entry into the Membership Education Program of the Fraternity after the satisfactory completion of one term as a member of a University of Oklahoma band or istrumental ensemble. This allows incoming freshmen a full semester to adapt to college life before joining Kappa Kappa Psi.
But don't let that stop you from coming to the fall rush events. Evenyone is invited to attend and get to know more about the fraternity.
How can you join:
During the fall and spring, the brothers will host several events for what is called "rush." After the fall and spring rush weeks, interview invitations will be passed out to those that we feel show interest in our fraternity. On a Thursday night, we will have a formal interview process where we ask you questions concerning yourself as a person, your interests, qualities and why you want to join our brotherhood. After that, if you are given a bid and accept to become a Membership Candidate (MC) we begin the process of teaching you about Kappa Kappa Psi through the Membership Education Program (MEP) which includes our purposes, our goals and about brotherhood.
Rush Events:
Rush events are a way for you to get to know the brothers and for us to get to know you better. Attending rush events is not mandatory to become a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, but is highly encouraged. We want you to meet us personally and make sure that this fraternity is right for you. Every event is free for prospective members courtesy of the current members for coming out to hang out with us. We will also be holding sporadic informal events with the brothers to help you become more familitar with our membership.
Fall Rush Week
TBA
Spring Rush:
Througout the fall the brothers will host a few small rush events. At the beginning of the spring semester, we will again have a Rush WEek. Again, all fo these events are for you to get to know us better and for us to get to know you. Events during the fall and for spring Rush Week will be announced at a later time.
What is Rush:
"Rush" is a term for recruiting new members. It is basically a way for you to find out if you get along with the people in the fraternity.
Do you allow hazing?
Absolutely NOT! Kappa Kappa Psi has a strict policy against hazing. It does not help you to become a better brother, nor does it help our bands to become better. The only thing hazing does is hurt people.
I don't drink. Can I still be in the fraternity?
Yes. Kappa Kappa Psi is a completely dry fraternity. There is never alcohol at any of our fraternity events and never is there pressure for you to drink.
Do you have a house?
No. Kappa Kappa Psi does not own a house. Many of our brothers, however, choose to live together on and off campus.
I want to rush a social fraternity. Can I still do Kappa Kappa Psi?
Yes. Many of our brothers are members of social fraternities and other organizations around campus. The only restriction is that you cannot join any other college or university band fraternity.
